My Dad In The War (Part Four)

One day, as Dad's platoon was marching in the Philippine jungle, they came upon a water buffalo stuck in a water hole. The poor animal had exhausted itself trying to get out. Now it was just laying there. Dad could hear it's heavy breaths. It was waiting to die. Maybe it even knew it.
They had no way of getting the animal out of the water hole, and couldn't spare the time to even try. To end the buffalo's suffering, one of the soldiers threw a grenade at the poor animal and blew it up, killing it.
     They continued marching.
