Email To My Brother: Of Course

My father was sitting alone in the den, TV off.

     He looked sad.

    “What’s the matter, pop?” I asked him, my voice soft.

    “Didn’t you hear?” he said. “Rush Limbaugh died. He was such a good man,” he said between sniffles.

    I was quiet.

    “Would you cry for us if we died?” I finally said. 

    “OF COURSE,” he insisted, and then thought about it. “Well, not for your brother,” he said.

The last Saturday before Christmas was busy.      By the time I got home it was dark. My wife was already in bed watching something on her tablet. I'd tell you what, but I've forgotten. That's nothing unusual. I can forget any number between one and ten just by counting scoops of coffee into my coffee maker.    as featured in Desert Exposure Magazine RaisingDad by Jim and Henry Duchene I Retired For This? “yeah, I thought so”    My wife and I were cleaning our oakwood floors downstairs.      Wood floors need a good, old fashioned cleaning and waxing several times a year to keep it rich looking, and all that cleaning and waxing takes an awful lot of elbow grease. With the grease usually coming from  MY  elbow. Another Four Stories
